Week in Jorge

run for justice

Jen and I ran the 5k today as part of the LA Marathon happenings. I finished in the middle of the pack with a time of 44:37. You can check it here!

In wedding preparation news, we bought our wedding bands, I got Jen’s engagement ring (same diamond) updated to the ring I wanted from the get go, we picked our photographer, and made prgress on a bunch of other stuff.

Elliott Smith Wall Restored

Earlier in the week we learned that the Elliott Smith wall was restored from the disastrous mess it became over the past few months. I track this wall because, yes, I am a big fan of Elliott’s music but this little wall and next door restaurant have taken on special significance since this is were I proposed to Jen.

Marouch

marouchHere I was thinking I was going to be stranded tonight alone at the apartment left to fend for myself for dinner like a new born polar bear in the arctic when I hear keys in the door and Jen walking in. A colleague of hers is in town so she had plans to meet up and go for dinner. Well, I thought this meant going downtown and what not so I said count me out since we have plans to meet up downtown tomorrow. As it it turns out she had plans to meet for dinner at a local restaurant called Marouch. It’s a nice little Lebanese place with a nice atmosphere and tasty food at great prices. I had the chicken sawarma and it was a large portion. Enough to take home the left overs. We started with the vegetarian dinner plate as our appetizer and it was a ton, plenty to go around for the three of us. The Lebanese beer wasn’t great but nothing too bad since I had two and Jen said the vino tinto was good. Our good friends recommended the place (they raves about it apparently) and I’m pretty sure we’ll be back so there you have it.

I Drink Soy Milk

I don’t know anyone who loves milk as much as myself.

No one.

I am the quintessential kid who grew up on a bowl of cereal or a pop tart and a glass of milk. I am a child of the 80’s and milk was my fuel.

My idols advertised it with the Got Milk campaigns and I drank it day and night.

I never even considered an alternative even as I lived with my best friend Vic who couldn’t drink milk anymore due to some health reason.

A few years ago, sometime after a doctor told me I should give up milk, I picked up a book by Jack LaLane that has been in print for decades and in it he talks about how milk isn’t needed in order to be healthy. “Name me one creature on this earth, except for man, who uses milk after they wean,” was his quote.

Well, the point is, I no longer drink milk. I drink soy “milk”, which is really soy juice, and I love it. Who woulda known it?

And this major news comes on the day of the Oscars when Jen and I are hosting a little get together with some friends and we’re making milk shakes in honor of the movie There Will Be Blood.

I’ve been taking some cool photos of Jen lately and this is one of my favorites out of the bunch. I dig the lighting, the locale, and she’s on the phone a lot so I think this captures Jen being Jen well.

Wedding Plans Update

This past weekend Jen and I got a lot done on the wedding front.

It’s already crunch time in terms of getting vendors lined up and things ordered that take weeks or months on end to make or deliver. Included in the lot are invitations, wedding dress (a big check off the list), our engagement photos, and more.

The coolest thing we took care of was our engagement photos. Our good friend Jon Fox took the photos and is working on something extra special for our save the date mailings. Can’t wait to see what he conjures up and get those in the mail.

Right now, I’m working on my Spanish class homework. Can you believe it? I’m finally learning to speak some Spanish! It’s one of the many perks of my cool job.

It

OK!

This is it.

My new blog on my shiny new server that I have root access to and can kick the crap out of.

This is a test post akin to lorem ipsum but babble from my brain instead.

This is what I am doing on Friday night! Coding and blogging and obsessing over RSS feeds and how they describe me to a tee and how my life is an open book if you cared to look.

My old dusty blog was from the time of the dinosaurs if you’re counting in internet time and I never wrote in it and it was all automated and it was lame for the most part. I used movabltype and it is swell and all but a bit overkill for what I need now. And Wordpress’ community is astounding and full of all kinds of voodoo from up their trixy sleeves.
